Driving numbers are down for younger people and the auto industry hasn’t found a way to respond. It’s because they don’t understand why millennials could possibly not want to drive.

It seems to be a trend in the big cities everywhere. I’ve got two sons who haven’t got a car and don’t want one. Public transport here in Cologne is really great and we use it often (though we have a car …) But it’s a problem in the smaller cities and in the countryside.

A car would be at the bottom of my list if public transportation were available. During the time I lived in DC, it would have been relatively easy not to own a car. We’d always had two cars and since DC we’ve realized that one is enough.
